FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ANSWERED
After
some discussion the Dusi Organising committee of Natal Canoe Club
have decided to extend the principle behind their seeding plan for
the 1st two rows of A Batch to the whole race on Day 1.
The thinking behind this is to eliminate the subjectivity of the CSA
Ladder system as completely as possible. There will now be only one
avenue to a seeded batch with the same rule for everyone, apart of
course, from the specials like seeded women, 20 and 25 year Dusi
Rats and the Charity Batch. The organisers are also confident enough
in their security arrangements to drop the security batches for
Mixed Doubles and Women.
So the whole race on Day 1 will be seeded as follows:-
Dusi Seeding:
Seeding for the first two rows of A batch on Day 1 will be done as
follows:
The following races are designated as the seeding races for the
first two rows of A batch on Day 1 of The Unlimited Dusi 2012 - 40
boats.
1. The Unlimited Ozzie Gladwin
2. Popes Canoe Centre Ibis to Dip Alan Gardiner Memorial
3. 50 Miler Day 1
4. 50 Miler Day 2
5. Campbell's to Dusi Bridge
6. Inanda Dam to Durban (which will include the Burma Road portage
option)
7. Midmar Mini Marathon
8. Rietvlei Rumble in Gauteng
In order to be seeded in the first two rows of A Batch on Day 1 of
the Unlimited Dusi 2012, a k2 combination will have to have
completed at least one of these races. The seeding will be done on
the boat/combination’s single best index result from these races,
the first 40 boats being chosen. There will be no exceptions to this
rule. The third row of A Batch and all the subsequent batches, with
the exception of the usual special batches, will be seeded according
to the seeded using the best single index result for each paddler
taken from the following set of seeding races. as calculated after
the Inanda Dam to Durban Race.
Western Cape : Berg,
Breede and Robertson to Bonnievale K2
Eastern Cape : Fish River Marathon
Gauteng : Vaal Marathon and Rietvlei Rumble
KZN : The Unlimited
Ozzie Gladwin, 50 Miler, Campbells to Dusi Bridge, Ibis to Dip,
Inanda to Durban and Midmar Mini Marathon
For this seeding there is more flexibility than in the Seeded Rows
in that a K2 boat index will be an average of the crews individual
best K2 indexes from the selected races allowing for some partner
swapping..
Paddlers not taking part in any of the selected race will be seeded
behind the rest of the field according to the normal CSA Ladder.
International paddlers will not be seeded by this method, rather
each case will be assessed on merit. K1’s will be in their own
batches seeded by the CSA Ladder scattered through the field. K3’s
will be seeded as K2’s.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
1. The Dusi index is calculated
differently to the national index. You can’t compare the 2 indices
or the method of calculation.
2. A K2 index will be the average of the 2 paddlers
best Dusi Indexes. This means that a K2, or paddler, does not get
downgraded if he has a bad race at some stage
3. That is the reason you will
see a number of people with a 100 index. In the perfect world, there
should only be a maximum of 1 person with a 100 index.
4. The highest index one can
achieve at a race is the highest index of those who have entered.
5. So if Hank Macgregor is
paddling, the race will be rated 100. If you beat Hank, you will get
100 – regardless of what race it is.
6. As things stand, if the best
rated paddler at the race is say Piers Cruikshanks, that race will
be rated 101.36. Beat Piers and you get 101.36. If Piers wins, his
index stays the same.
7. If Piers races against Hank
and comes second and gets a better index than his current 101.36,
then he improves his index accordingly. If Piers beats Hank, Piers
gets 100.
8. The whole system is based on
a % after the winner’s time, not your time in relation to your
mate’s time.
9. We have tried to be as
inclusive as possible and included races from throughout the
country, as well as all the Grand Prix races. We are also allowing
paddlers to create an index in a K1 which will be recognised.
For Dusi 2012, the final batches (excluding A Batch) will be
calculated using the best index of 1 of the paddlers in a K2.
For seeding purposes the 2012 The Unlimited Dusi will
use results from the following races:
